The International Conference on Distributed Computing and Networking (ICDCN) is an annual international conference that brings together research in theory, algorithms, applications, and emerging technologies in distributed computing and networking. Established 26 years ago as the International Workshop on Distributed Computing (IWDC) at Jadavpur University, India, ICDCN has since evolved into one of the leading international conferences in this domain.
ICDCN is among the few conferences that provide a common scientific platform for researchers from both distributed computing and networking communities. It has a strong international character and is guided by a seven-member Steering Committee and a five-member Advisory Committee.
While the early editions of ICDCN were hosted by premier institutions in India like IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati, IIIT Hyderabad, IIT BHU, TIFR Mumbai, Infosys. Several recent editions have been organized outside India. Notable examples include ICDCN 2012 in Hong Kong, ICDCN 2016 in Singapore, and ICDCN 2021, 2026 in Japan.
Beyond the presentation of high-quality scientific research, ICDCN features panels and forums on topics of current relevance and maintains strong participation from industry. A hallmark of the conference has been its tradition of inviting distinguished keynote speakers who are leaders in their fields. Past and recent keynote speakers include Turing Award winners Leslie Lamport (ICDCN 2013, TIFR, India), Leslie Valiant (ICDCN 2024, IIT Madras), Allan Borodin (ICDCN 2025, IIT Hyderabad), and Robert Tarjan (ICDCN 2026, Nara).
The conference typically begins with a set of tutorials delivered by experts, followed by several workshops on cutting-edge topics, including a workshop on Networking Women in Distributed Computing and Networking. In selected editions, a dedicated industry track has been organized to further encourage industrial participation.
ICDCN actively promotes student participation through scholarships and discounted registration fees. It also hosts a Doctoral Symposium, providing promising graduate students an opportunity to present their research before a panel of internationally renowned academics and industry leaders.
ICDCN is typically attended by 100-150 participants each year. The conference receives approximately 100 or more submissions annually and maintains a selective acceptance rate of 25-30%. For nearly a decade, the conference proceedings were published by Springer; since 2015, they have been published by ACM under its ICPS series.
